    About this recipe: This barbecue sauce goes beyond the usual concoction, deriving flavour from orange juice, red wine and lots of garlic. It's perfect on any cut of chicken.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 24 

    • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 2 onions, chopped
    • 5 cloves garlic, minced
    • 320ml (11 fl oz) high quality orange juice
    • 1 dessertspoon mustard powder
    • 450g (16 oz) ketchup
    • 1 lemon, juiced
    • 7 tablespoons red wine
    • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

    Method
    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

    1. In a medium frying pan, sauté onion and garlic for 4 to 5 minutes, or until translucent. Add the orange juice, mustard, ketchup, lemon juice, red wine, salt and pepper. Simmer all together over low heat for 30 minutes, then blend in a blender or food processor. Sauce may be thinned with water to taste, if desired.

    I needed a sugar free barbecue sauce recipe and this worked well. I used in in pulled pork and it got excellent response from those that tried it. My husband says it is a keeper.     As it stands this recipe is far to tart from all the citrus. I followed the recipe exactly as it was written. I think the author may have intended the orange juice to be prepared prior to adding 12 ounces of it. I would try it again with 12 oz of prepared oj instead of the oj concentrate but there are other recipes out there more worthy of my time.  -  16 Feb 2014  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
