An excellent hearty and warming family meal. Can be mildly mouthwatering or hot as you dare. It can also be varied ever so slightly by trying different flavoured corn chips/tortilla chips. Try zingy lime or fragrant chilli varieties to suit your own tastes. I have seen chilli lasagna recipes before but always using pasta sheets which doesn't feel very Mexican to me. Serve with a crisp cooling salad dressed with mint, cucumber, yoghurt or soured cream.

Roasted chicken wings with a sticky, sweet coating. Serve with rice and broccoli as a main, or on its own as a starter or party nibble.

Two firm favourites – baked beans and traditional cottage pie – are combined here to provide a hearty and nutritious dish for all the family. Try serving with green beans or carrots.

Banana muffins make a healthy snack for children after school. They are so easy to make and freeze well too. So, make these instead of throwing away those brown bananas!

Mouth-watering, tender pork cooked in a slow cooker and served with barbecue sauce. An American favourite, serve on floury baps with coleslaw and crisps.

These are an all-American favourite. As the name suggests, they have a messy appearance – a bolognese mixture served between wholemeal rolls – but it's a recipe all the family will love, and it can be prepared ahead. Lean minced turkey is used here as a lower-fat alternative to minced beef, but you could use either.

The sweet chilli sauce in this recipe isn't overpowering but gives a subtle flavour. If a hotter flavour is required, I like to add crushed chilli flakes for a kick.

Make a batch of these moreish nachos, loaded with tomato salsa and grated cheese, to get everyone munching. They're fun to make and ready to eat in minutes.
