I tried this dairy-free smoothie recipe this morning and we decided it was delicious. A nurse prescribed a teaspoonful of ginger for my husband and myself each day, which is supposed to be beneficial for cholesterol.

This is a great smoothie consisting of fruit, fruit juice and ice. I like to use whatever fresh fruits are in season. Any kind of berry, mangos, papayas, kiwi fruit - all make a great smoothie. Experiment with your favourites!

You don't need ice when using frozen berries for this smoothie. Use any frozen berries you like along with soy milk, orange juice and wheatgerm, to make this a quick liquid breakfast.

The old German classic Christmas and winter warmer. Boozy, spicy and indulgent. Similar to the British mulled wine. Great at a Christmas dinner party or for Bonfire Night as a winter warmer.

What an invigorating drink this is, made with fresh citrus, very lightly sweetened and flavoured with a little lime zest and mint. Squeezing your own juice makes all the difference in both nutrition and flavour, as vitamin C begins to dissipate as soon as a fruit or vegetable is cut. This mixed citrus drink makes a lively breakfast or brunch drink.

What a refreshing, fiery twist on lemonade. Freeze some of this into ice cubes to use in the drinks, so it won't be diluted!

A luscious combination of fruit puréed together with a little fizzy ginger ale, or with tonic, bitter lemon or sparkling mineral water, makes a wonderfully refreshing fruit drink with a difference – a simple way to boost your consumption of fresh fruit. Choose perfectly ripe, fragrant fruit for the smoothest fizz.

This Mexican punch is so flavourful, and feels exotic despite all the ingredients being readily available. A great party drink for a summer garden party or barbecue.

A refreshing summer drink on a hot day! When raspberries are in season, juice a punnet of raspberries and discard the pulp and seeds.

Drinking fresh vegetable and fruit juices is one of the easiest ways to add vitamins and minerals to your diet. Vegetables are particularly versatile because they can be used both in sweet drinks and in savoury, even spicy, mixtures for sophisticated cocktails. Serve this bright example at any time of day for an instant lift.
