These flaky Danish pastries are a time-consuming project, but they're a perfect way to show people how much you love them! I like serving them at special brunches. The puff pastry and almond filling can be made ahead of time, and the pastries can be frozen before baking.

These little bread rings, Jewish in origin, are delicious teamed with savoury fillings such as smoked salmon and a soft cheese, or egg and salad. The double cooking method – first by briefly poaching in boiling water, then baking – gives bagels their unique soft crumb and slightly chewy crust.

This is a yeast bread that I make regularly. You can ask your local bakery or health food shop for fresh yeast.

This vegetable-packed quiche is cooked in a large, deeper-than-average tin and the pastry is rolled out thinly to give a generous amount of filling and small proportion of pastry in each slice. Serve warm, rather than piping hot or chilled, with a lightly dressed, crisp salad.

Based on an old-fashioned English recipe, but with an American influence, this satisfying savoury pudding is made up of layers of bread and vegetables with a cheesy egg custard poured over. Served with a quick home-made tomato sauce, it is a tasty and nutritious dish. A leafy salad could be served alongside.

A popular, farmhouse-style recipe, but with the addition of juicy leeks and sun-blush tomatoes for a healthier result. Excellent for brunch or for an easy lunch or supper, served with a simple salad.

If you love quiche but are tired of the usual fillings, here's a new idea to whet your appetite. A vibrant green layer of peppery rocket is sandwiched between sliced potatoes and leeks in a Gruyre-flavoured custard, and the crisp pastry case is speckled with hot chilli and fragrant thyme. Serve warm with a tomato and red onion salad.

This recipe is the next best thing to a bakery babka! Although babkas are traditionally yeast-risen breads, this one is more similar to a sweet quick bread or cake.

We attended a fayre in Wales and the ladies of the local church were baking and selling these traditional cakes. We asked for the recipe and they graciously shared it with us.

Stirring in fruit adds vitamin C; nuts and seeds add vitamin E.

Serve this traditional Czech Christmas bread with butter. Some people toast it and eat it with jam or icing sugar depending upon local customs and family preference. It takes a while to make, but is well worth the effort.

The filling for this very special tart combines asparagus spears with strips of Parma ham, peas and grated pecorino cheese in a garlic-flavoured egg custard. The pastry case is made from a light yeasted shortcrust that is surprisingly low in fat. Small minted new potatoes would make a perfect accompaniment.

A simple quiche recipe without the pastry - just spinach, spring onions and two cheeses. Perfect for a last minute brunch.

I've used this delicious recipe for about 29 years. They are very good . . . much better than any shop-bought muffins I've ever had.

Traditionally served for breakfast, kedgeree – a dish dating back to the Raj – is ideal for brunch or a light supper. This recipe uses brown rice and yoghurt, for extra health benefits.

This recipe calls for almonds but you can use any nuts you like - it's always delicious! A healthy and energising way to start your day. Also great for making your own yoghurt pots!

This sweet, crunchy homemade granola combines porridge oats with peanuts, wheatgerm, honey, dark brown sugar and vanilla. Baked in the oven, it's easy to make. You can use whatever kind of nuts you prefer.
