Apple purée gives this sauce a rich thick texture that coats meat well. It has a sweet spicy flavour, excellent on chicken or pork. It may also be stored in sterile glass jars.

Just a plain and simple apple purée to serve with roast pork, or to use as a filling for pastries. Also lovely on top of yoghurt or ice cream.

When our children were little my friend gave me this recipe which hides vegetables in the sauce; my children still love it as teenagers. It freezes very well so I am never without a quick meal to hand. It can be used on its own over pasta or with the addition of single cream makes a luxurious soup. A vegetarian version can be made without the bacon.

This is a very versatile Indian curry sauce that can be served as a main course with meats and/or vegetables or as a sauce for dipping or to spice up veggie side dishes. It's great on a jacket potato.

Fresh tomatoes, onion, tomato purée and olive oil make this basic pasta sauce. It great for any use - as a base for Spaghetti Bolognese, as a pizza topping, or with fried breaded chicken or aubergine slices.

My mother-in-law gave me this BBQ sauce recipe over twenty four years ago. I use it frequently and someone always asks for it. A mixture of tangy ingredients, onion and brown sugar creates a tasty sauce! This will keep in the fridge for several weeks.

This barbecue sauce goes beyond the usual concoction, deriving flavour from orange juice, red wine and lots of garlic. It's perfect on any cut of chicken.

Sweet red onions become wonderfully tender and take on a glorious colour when cooked with beetroot – great with pork and cheese dishes.

This is the first recipe I've made by myself, usually I use a recipe but didn't have access to the internet. I cooked this with chunks of chicken but plan on cooking it to have with scallops so this recipe is just for the salsa. It would also go great with some pasta though. If anyone has any advice or tips for me then they would be greatly appreciated as I am a beginner cook. Thanks and enjoy :)

This always goes down well with my family. I always make it at Christmastime, but also throughout the year when cooking white meats. It's also welcomed by my vegetarian family/friends.

A simple and spicy Italian pasta sauce, with incredible flavour. Basil is not traditional in this sauce, but we like it.

Wash, peel and de-seed the tomatoes - I found using a regular peeler did not work too well, I used a perforated edged knife to peel and de-seed.

A dark chocolate dip. I always use a bar that has a minimum of 50% cocoa solids as this has a good strong bitterness. I have tried making it with white and milk chocolate but it didn't work, it didn't set.

This custard is excellent with sponge pudding or with our favourite croissant bread pudding. It's pourable or spoon-able. To prevent a lumpy or scorched pudding use a heavy bottomed saucepan and stir CONSTANTLY. Do not walk away while this is cooking.

There are many versions of this delicious, indispensable sauce. This one is a basic recipe for fresh tomatoes. Vine-ripened or full-flavoured summer tomatoes are best, but when they are not available, the sauce can be made with canned tomatoes.
