Make your mince go further with the tasty addition of mushrooms. Not only does it cut on fat and calories, but also your pound! A really good way to get fussy kids to eat well!

This recipe is just thrown together but it is really nice. I was a bit sceptical at first because I'm not a mustard lover and even though you can taste it, it's not overpowering it does just blend in with everything else. My kids love em.

A hearty stuffed pasta that has a beef and vegetable filling, baked with a fresh homemade tomato sauce. Serve with a green salad and crusty Italian bread, if desired.

This mellow curry has just a hint of chilli, so it's ideal for children who like to be a little adventurous with their food. Serve with steamed basmati rice and warm naan bread.

Once they have been put together you can either fry them or steam them; both ways are delicious.

Perfect on a chilly autumn evening...it's been in my family for years. The cinnamon may be a surprise ingredient, but it adds a good rich flavour.

This simple warm salad is full of crunchy textures, and handy to make when time is short. Serve with soured cream or Greek-style yoghurt to balance the hot chillies. Delicious!

I started putting chilli onto my hot dogs to liven them up a bit instead of just fried onion and it tastes lovely. They are also budget friendly too, the ingredients can be bought for under a fiver. Great for families!

Two firm favourites – baked beans and traditional cottage pie – are combined here to provide a hearty and nutritious dish for all the family. Try serving with green beans or carrots.

This classic favourite makes a comforting meal, especially on a cold day. Lean minced beef is a healthy filling that takes minutes to cook, and the topping is quickly browned under the grill. Serve with peas or seasonal greens. Delicious!

Hearty, healthy and everyone's favourite Italian dish – don't you want pasta and meatballs for supper tonight? Unlike traditional recipes, these meatballs are low in fat, yet they're full of the terrific taste you crave.

Lemon and fennel bring wonderfully fresh flavours to familiar braised mince in this Italian-inspired dish, making this as good for al fresco summer dining as for a light supper on a winter evening. Serve plenty of bread or rolls to mop up the deliciously tangy tomato sauce, plus a crisp leafy salad.

Passed down from my mum from a friend of my dad's, the late Mark Lasey. They went round for a dinner after the pub one night and all he had was mushrooms, onions, minced beef, baked beans and pasta that could have gone together as a dish. The dish was a success and we have now perfected it as a favourite family dish and have named it Laseyona after my dad's dear friend.

I have made up this great slow cooker recipe that can be made in bulk to make portions to freeze. We use as a one-pot meal to put into tacos; in wraps; on pizza; on toast. Its so versatile, so easy, so cheap, so healthy ! You can easily vary what is added.

A scrumptious alternative to chilli which is perfect for the kids! Served with a mixed salad, garlic crusty bread, rice, or even chips! The choice is yours! It helps if you prepare the ingredients first.

Slim pasta spirals called fusilli are delicious cooked in a casserole of beef and vegetables. The dried, uncooked pasta is added towards the end of the cooking time so that it retains its al dente texture while still absorbing the savoury flavours of the meat, vegetables and oregano in the rich stew.
