This combination is so good together and it's a great way to get your kids eating fruit. I make this for my daughter's lunch and she loves it.

Soft, chewy bars, packed with sweet fruit and ginger, make an ideal mid-morning or afternoon snack.

This is a light summery pasta salad that I love because the flavours go so well together. Lemon juice and a drizzle of good olive oil finish everything off nicely. It does taste best when chilled for 1 or 2 hours.

The ultimate version of a peanut butter sandwich takes some good hearty bread packed with sesame and sunflower seeds, with sweet mashed banana as a perfect partner for the peanuts. Serve with crisp apple or fresh, juicy pineapple wedges for extra fruit value.

Naturally sweet and moist, these make a great addition to a packed lunch. They are also a good way of getting the family to try some more unusual grains and seeds, and add new healthy ingredients to the diet.

Flapjacks are a favourite sweet treat for lunchboxes as well as for coffee or teatime. The modern streamlined version here uses less butter than usual, and adds dates for natural sweetness as well as walnuts and sunflower seeds for extra texture. The result is both nutritious and delicious.

These nutty, moist cookies will cheer up mid-morning coffee or an afterschool snack. They are satisfying and packed full of healthy ingredients to restore flagging energy levels, without being too sweet. Barley flakes, which are slightly crisper than oatflakes, are available from most healthfood shops.

Serving fresh fruit threaded on skewers is an attractive alternative to making a fruit salad and is a great way of pairing complementary fruit. It will entice children to eat more fruit, too. Here an exotic nut cream flavoured with rosewater transforms the simple combination of ripe apricots and cherries.

This breakfast cereal was invented over a century ago by Dr Bircher-Benner at his clinic in Zürich to improve children's diets. Soaking the cereal – here using milk – makes it easier to eat and digest.

Plain yoghurt makes the perfect instant dessert – it just needs a little imagination. Add some fruit and a crunchy nut topping and it will round off a meal perfectly. Delicious!

This is a delicious way to use up fresh figs for a healthier dessert. They look beautiful with the toasted almond and ricotta filling.

This sweet, crunchy homemade granola combines porridge oats with peanuts, wheatgerm, honey, dark brown sugar and vanilla. Baked in the oven, it's easy to make. You can use whatever kind of nuts you prefer.

For a speedy, sweet treat to end a meal, serve bananas in a sticky and nutty sauce, with ice cream. It's a fun, retro dessert given a modern zesty twist with orange, which balances the richness perfectly. Delicious!

I found a similar recipe on the Polish internet around 5 years ago and I changed it and tweaked it a lot since then. I think I made it at least 20 times. It's very sweet, full of different surprises (seeds, nuts etc.) and everybody loves it. It's also quite filling so it might even last for 3 days - that's if there are no children around! There is a lot of writing but the cake is very quick to make.

Double the amount of peanut butter if you are a big fan! Kids can easily help make it, since this is a bread machine recipe.

When I'm on the go, I want to grab something that is packed with nutrition, not too sweet and plenty tasty. I've made this power bar recipe a bunch of times now and my taste testers (that would be my husband who is a very direct and rather stringent critic) have given it their official seal of approval (that would be eating an entire tray in two days flat).

This mix-and-chill take on an Italian panforte – a wonderful mix of baked fruit, nuts, honey and spice – is the fastest-ever way to make an uncooked cake and is irresistible with coffee or liqueurs. Delicious!

This mildly spiced mix of crunchy nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, tangy dried cranberries and sweet sultanas is great for nibbling as a healthy snack or with drinks. Children love it too!
