A good old fashioned soda bread with just the basic ingredients. Buttermilk gives this crusty loaf a good flavour. The best Irish soda bread around!

Once you see how easy it is so make this bread in your bread machine, you won't buy it at the store anymore!

These little bread rings, Jewish in origin, are delicious teamed with savoury fillings such as smoked salmon and a soft cheese, or egg and salad. The double cooking method – first by briefly poaching in boiling water, then baking – gives bagels their unique soft crumb and slightly chewy crust.

This is a yeast bread that I make regularly. You can ask your local bakery or health food shop for fresh yeast.

This is moist and delicious with loads of banana flavour! Friends and family love my banana bread - it's wonderful toasted, too. Once you taste this, you'll never throw away those ripe bananas again!

This is a basic recipe for a yeast dough: Make it into rolls, a base for focaccia or simply a loaf. Also perfect for making baps.

This recipe makes a very good basic loaf, but it is also infinitely flexible. You can make any number of breads with it, just by using different types of flour or adding herbs, nuts, cheese, olives, seeds, dried fruit and berries, or you can shape it into rolls. You don’t even need a loaf tin as the bread is baked on a baking tray.

This hearty, herb bread makes any sandwich a little more exciting! Use dried tomatoes, not tomatoes that are reconstituted and packed in oil.

The trick is to boil before baking! This makes an excellent batch of plain bagels that you can enhance with sesame seeds or poppy seeds.

Being steamed rather than baked, this mixed-grain bread has a soft crust and close texture. It gets its dark, rich colour and flavour from molasses. It was created by American settlers in the days before most homes had ovens.

This recipe makes great baps for sandwiches. For a nice presentation, sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds before baking.

This bread is perfect if you're a garlic lover like me! I have even been known to add a couple more cloves of garlic.
