This is just like traditional Christmas pudding, but with less fat. The house smells great all day long. It's wonderful served with rum or cranberry sauce.

This is a very old baked apple dumpling recipe but it is so easy. Serve hot or cold with custard or ice cream.

Easy to make and utterly delicious, with a thick, crunchy, cinnamon topping over apple slices coated in dark brown sugar.

Tart blackcurrants make an excellent summer teabread that is fruity without being too sweet, while mint adds a fresh, herbal note. If you have a glut of blackcurrants, make a few loaves and freeze for up to 2 months.

A recipe that has been handed down through my family - a very nice cake to have when you want to sit down on the couch with a cup of tea. Beats bought cakes any day

This recipe makes great baps for sandwiches. For a nice presentation, sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds before baking.

Here's a new version of beans on toast, combining creamy butter beans with crisp bacon, curd cheese and mustard. With a crisp salad alongside, it makes a super meal that is ready to serve in about 15 minutes.

An excellent hearty and warming family meal. Can be mildly mouthwatering or hot as you dare. It can also be varied ever so slightly by trying different flavoured corn chips/tortilla chips. Try zingy lime or fragrant chilli varieties to suit your own tastes. I have seen chilli lasagna recipes before but always using pasta sheets which doesn't feel very Mexican to me. Serve with a crisp cooling salad dressed with mint, cucumber, yoghurt or soured cream.

Perfect on a chilly autumn evening...it's been in my family for years. The cinnamon may be a surprise ingredient, but it adds a good rich flavour.

Thickening soup with potato gives a velvety smooth result without adding the fat used in other traditional methods. Served either hot or chilled, this soup is ideal as a dinner-party starter all through the year.

This was my mother's signature recipe. Simple, but classic - you can't go wrong. Slice it lengthwise, very thinly. Leftovers are delicious cold for sandwiches with wholegrain mustard.

Celeriac makes a rich soup with lots of flavour and a creamy texture. Young leaf spinach complements the celeriac beautifully, bringing colour and a light, fresh taste in the final minutes of cooking.

Peppery watercress and mature Cheddar flavour these tempting and nutritious savoury scones. Serve them warm with soup instead of bread or split and fill them with salad ingredients for a satisfying packed lunch.
