This low-fat pudding is simple and wonderful. A lovely sweetened prune purée is folded into stiffly beaten egg whites and then baked until the top is brown and delicious.

This is a basic truffle recipe to which you can add your own flavourings or extracts. Dust with cocoa powder or icing sugar, or roll in coconut or ground nuts.

The last Sunday before Advent is often called ‘Stir up Sunday’. Christmas puddings are best made a month or so before the big day itself so the mixture has time to fully mature. Traditionally, the whole family takes a turn at stirring the Christmas pudding, whilst making a wish. Another popular ritual is to add a coin or a sixpence into the mix. Whoever finds it on his or her plate on Christmas Day is brought abundant wealth and happiness!

Pumpkin pie is an American classic, served at Thanksgiving and Christmas. This recipe is perfect in autumn and winter when pumpkin is in season. Try substituting butternut squash for pumpkin, if desired!

I adored black forest gateaux in the 70s and loved trifle so decided I would fuse the two. You can make it all from scratch but also easy to substitute ready made goods if you don't have the inclination. The ingredients are split to enable you to decide at each 'layer'.

An incredibly easy way to round off a dinner party - but only if they aren't driving! I like to serve two small scoops in tiny dishes with shortbread, biscotti or amaretti. You can vary this any way you like - try Cointreau or Drambuie (my favourite), or add a few drops of real vanilla extract or some of the vanilla seeds.

Here are some luxurious little ‘moneybag’ pastries filled with a ginger-spiced mixture of dried fruit, apple and walnuts. The dried fruits are first soaked in brandy, although you can replace the alcohol with fresh orange juice if you prefer. Try these at Christmas-time as a lower-fat alternative to mince pies.

A Scottish twist on a traditional bread pudding recipe. Make in individual ramekins for an impressive dinner party presentation, and try using brioche or pannetone instead of plain bread to make it extra special.

This is a rich dessert, but well worth the calories. I serve with a creme anglaise sauce, too.

I won a gold medal with this recipe in a culinary Olympics in March of 2007. Serve the souffles with fresh raspberry sauce, if desired.

A chocolate and orange piece of heaven, great with strawberries and cake for dipping! For best results use a chocolate that is at least 70 percent cocoa.
