Light and crunchy biscotti with the flavours of almond and lemon. These keep for weeks, so they make great food gifts.

This is just like traditional Christmas pudding, but with less fat. The house smells great all day long. It's wonderful served with rum or cranberry sauce.

This Christmas cake is lovely in texture and taste. It just has one difference - no chopped mixed peel.

A brilliant Black Forest cake which is soaked in Kirsch liqueur, with cherry filling.

I adored black forest gateaux in the 70s and loved trifle so decided I would fuse the two. You can make it all from scratch but also easy to substitute ready made goods if you don't have the inclination. The ingredients are split to enable you to decide at each 'layer'.

This is an Northern Ireland recipe given to me by my mum many years ago! You don't boil the cake, just the ingredients before you bake it.

This shortbread recipe has been a Christmas favourite with my family and friends for years. The shortbread keeps very well in an airtight tin or tightly wrapped in foil.

These deliciously spiced biscuits are subtly infused with caraway seed. They're excellent with a cup of tea and make a great food gift.

Light, airy gougères are a versatile addition to a meal or canape spread. Made small, they pair well with beer or wine; made larger, you can fill them with a filling of your choice. These are easier to make than the recipe sounds, yet the result looks impressive enough that you can tell your friends you slaved over them.

This is a lovely white cake with glace cherries and sultanas added for those of you who don't want to go to the trouble of making fruit cakes. This freezes well.

An elegant three layer cake that is moist and spicy and iced with a delicious cream cheese icing. This is a family favourite at Christmas in our house! I cut glace cherries in half and decorate the top in a wreath pattern.

This recipe takes some time and quite a few baking trays, but it's well worth it. It makes plenty so you can give away as gifts with good coffee beans.

This is an Austrian recipe that was passed on from one generation to the next in my family. The secret of this cake's full flavour and softness: Prepare it one day in advance before eating it!

Bûche de Noël is the French name for a chocolate yule log. This one is a heavenly flourless chocolate cake that's essentially a swiss roll rolled with a luscious chocolate whipped cream. Traditionally, Buche de Noel is decorated with icing sugar to resemble snow on a Yule log.

This cake and its icing are made from scratch. I cook for a living and the people that I have tried this on love it!

This is a bit of an unusual cake, but great for Christmas. The chocolate mixed with sultanas, apple sauce and spices gives a nice texture with a lot less work than plum pudding itself.
