A simple Asian dish with a savoury sweet bite. If you don't have plum conserve, you can use apricot instead.

These popular Chinese light bites, filled with chicken and crisp vegetables, are given a new twist, wrapped with filo pastry rather than the usual wonton wrappers, then baked, not deep-fried. Enjoy with a fruity chutney and an Oriental-style salad, or serve as party nibbles.

Crisp filo parcels open to reveal a creamy seafood filling that contrasts wonderfully with a ginger and pineapple sauce. Try serving with a medley of mixed seasonal baby vegetables.

This is an easy way to use up small amounts of leftover chicken, and no one fights over white or dark meat! Just wrap leftover chicken in wonton wrappers and bake until crispy. You can serve them plain or with soy sauce or sweet chilli sauce. You can buy wonton wrappers at Chinese and Asian supermarkets.

Spareribs glazed with the sweet, tangy taste of the Philippines. One of the honey coating ingredients, star anise, is native to China; it is a star-shaped, dark brown pod that contains a pea-sized seed in each of its eight segments.

The longer you marinade pork chops in this garlicky, gingery mixture the better the results. You can bake the chops with a sesame and breadcrumb crust, or you can skip this step and go straight to the barbecue. Use light soy sauce, if you prefer.

These Oriental-style, triangular parcels of crisp, light filo pastry enclose a ginger-flavoured filling of crab, water chestnuts and sweetcorn. They look and taste wonderful, and are really easy to make. Prepare them ahead for a party, then bake just before serving with a sweet chilli dipping sauce.

A salty, sweet and spicy marinade made with orange juice, soy sauce, ginger, dried chillies and sesame oil is used to make this baked tofu dish. Serve as a starter, or as a main with stir-fried broccoli and jasmine rice.

Inspired by the small crispy prawn toasts served in Chinese restaurants, these can be served as a starter or they make a good savoury nibble to hand round with drinks. Traditionally the toasts are deep fried in oil, but in this updated healthy version they are baked in a hot oven until crisp and golden.

Everyone loves this chicken when I make it for parties. Leftovers are delicious in an Asian-inspired wrap.

Chicken is marinated in a chilli, lime and lemon grass mixture before it's coated with sesame breadcrumbs and baked. The Thai flavours work well if you want chicken for an Asian-inspired crisp green salad - a perfect light lunch or summer supper.

Oven-baked crisps are not only healthier than those that are fried, their flavour is fresher and more concentrated too. Here, thin slices of beetroot and potato are baked in a hot oven to make dippers for a spicy South-east Asian mixture. If possible, slice the vegetables with a mandolin to ensure they are all an even thickness.
