This savoury little gluten-free snack is a perfect starter or party food. I'm borrowing this recipe from my Brazilian friend Crislei who is so kind enough to share this foolproof recipe.

My favourite aunt introduced me to this deliciously rich and fragrant dish. In the past few years I've made some changes and this is the recipe my family likes best. It's a great chilli con carne alternative and it freezes well. Try it on a jacket potato!

This is a delicious and aromatic Argentinean marinade or sauce. Use it on barbecued meats - it's especially good with steak. The sauce is best if used immediately but will keep in the refrigerator for a couple of days.

Perk up pork with an overnight spicy-citrus marinade. Lightly toasting the cumin seeds and peppercorns in a dry pan turns up the heat on this full-flavoured roast. Serve with black beans and rice for a true Cuban-inspired meal.

Fresh ripe tomatoes, chillies, onion, garlic and coriander with a splash of lime juice - all you need to make a delightfully refreshing salsa. Adjust the heat level by experimenting with the amount and type of chillies you use. Jalapeños will give the most heat! Use jarred if you can't find them fresh.

This is a classic fried pastry, with versions popular in Chile, Argentina and the US. This recipe is similar to the ones you find in New Mexico. Roll in a mixture of cinnamon and caster sugar immediately after frying, or try drizzling with honey.
