An excellent hearty and warming family meal. Can be mildly mouthwatering or hot as you dare. It can also be varied ever so slightly by trying different flavoured corn chips/tortilla chips. Try zingy lime or fragrant chilli varieties to suit your own tastes. I have seen chilli lasagna recipes before but always using pasta sheets which doesn't feel very Mexican to me. Serve with a crisp cooling salad dressed with mint, cucumber, yoghurt or soured cream.

My family loves these as a side dish or for Sunday brunch. Delicious topped with soured cream and spring onions or apple sauce.

This is the Filipino version of spring rolls. You can find lumpia wrappers in Asian supermarkets wherever they keep their frozen food.

Beef shank, leek, celery and turnip flavour this hearty broth from the Isle of Man (where I grew up!). Though traditionally served at a Manx wedding feast, it's great for any occasion.

A vegetable-full curry! Serve this curry over your favourite rice and you're sure to have a tasty meal. If you have carrot-ginger juice available to you, try using it in place of the orange juice - either one is delicious!

This Passover tradition is one of my favourite soups, good year round. I always double the recipe for the matzoh balls, since everyone enjoys them so much. You may wish to cook the matzoh balls in slightly salted water, allow them to cool for several minutes and then transfer them to the soup. Some people say that the matzoh balls make the broth a bit cloudy.

This cool, refreshing blend of natural yoghurt, chopped cucumber, dill and garlic is a perfect accompaniment to lamb or rice, or both! Mint may be used in place of the dill.

Are you fed up with cold meat and salads or perhaps you are a vegetarian looking for a tasty supper or lunch dish for Passover? I have sautéed a mélange of mushrooms, surrounded it with some mashed potato and baked it; giving a new meaning to mash!

These classic potato pancakes are a Hanukkah tradition, though they make great fare any time of year. Serve with apple sauce, or soured cream and chopped spring onion.

Couscous is the national dish of Morocco, and this authentic-tasting version, with roasted vegetables and hot sauce, will transport you there.

A delicious fish soup that's popular in Russia and easy to make. Try it with red mullet, cod, seabass or salmon.

My friend's mother from the Ukraine taught me this recipe for the classic beetroot soup. It's as authentic as it gets. It can be served vegetarian style by omitting the sausage.
