This is a popular Catalan garlic sauce that goes very well with grilled meat and roasted pepper and aubergine (Escalivada). I have seen many spellings for this (i.e. alioli, aioli...) but the real name is "All i Oli" - from the Catalan for Garlic and Oil - and these 2 are the only ingredients although there are variations and some places add egg to ensure the consistency of the sauce, which with our without egg should look like mayonnaise.

This is a really straightforward traditional parev recipe that includes the classic ingredients of matzah and cinnamon. It is ideal for Seder night as it makes a large pudding, just the perfect dessert after a heavy meal. The apple juice and egg mixture ensures the pudding is light and fluffy.

I've seen a lot of recipes for this soup; however, my mum-in-law adds tomato puree for a bit of a different flavour and she doesn't add any lentils or beans. It's thick, filling and delicious, and you could make it vegetarian by using vegetable stock.

This is an adaptation of an old Armenian recipe, and this variation is so delicious I can't stop eating it. It's a great way to stretch expensive seasonal asparagus and pricey cashews. It's great as a side dish or as a vegetarian main.

Challah is a traditional Jewish plaited bread eaten on Shabbat and Jewish holidays, except for Passover, when leavened bread forbidden. This easy recipe uses a bread machine. I use the "light" setting on my bread machine.

An excellent hearty and warming family meal. Can be mildly mouthwatering or hot as you dare. It can also be varied ever so slightly by trying different flavoured corn chips/tortilla chips. Try zingy lime or fragrant chilli varieties to suit your own tastes. I have seen chilli lasagna recipes before but always using pasta sheets which doesn't feel very Mexican to me. Serve with a crisp cooling salad dressed with mint, cucumber, yoghurt or soured cream.

This is a Québécois pork spread with a similar taste to pâté but not as smooth. This is best appreciated spread on wholegrain toast with some onion jam.

These are the classic triangular Purim biscuit that are filled with poppy seeds, prunes or apricot preserves. Recipes vary quite considerably from being small cocktail size to being large and heavy. They can either be made with sweet yeast dough or biscuit pastry: it just depends on your preference and family tradition.

Not for the weak at heart, this is a sweet chicken and fruit soup from Algeria. You must serve with a crusty baguette to soak up the sweet and tangy broth. Great for using up roast chicken leftovers.

This is considered the national dish of the Philippines. The combination of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger and peppercorns is delicious and actually preserves the chicken! My mother taught me how to cook this, using her variation from the original recipe.

These are the easiest hamantashen I've ever made! They are a bit sweet, roll out easily and are consumed quickly! My kids don't want to give them to their friends! Traditional fillings are prune and poppy seed. You can use any tinned fruit filling, whole fruit preserves, chocolate chips or any type filling your family likes! Be creative with these!

This a is traditional Jewish classic dessert especially at your Purim celebration. It is customary to have food containing poppy seeds, fruits and nuts as this is what Esther ate whilst she was kept prisoner in the palace – they were some of the few ingredients that she could obtain that were kosher!
