Black Sheep Ale reminds me of walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks last year. They serve 'Black Sheep Pie' along the route and I thought… I can do that. Well maybe anyway. You can do it with any other ale too I suppose, and I used to do something similar with Guinness, but found that it’s got a slightly more bitter aftertaste to it than the Black Sheep.

The secret is in the pastry! If lard is not your style then it can be substituted with butter or margarine. It is simple & delicious!

I came up with this myself, I started adding herbs to my cottage pie and boy what a difference it makes. This is one of my husband's favourites, it's a very comforting dish! I strongly recommend that everyone should try it!

In Lancashire, when I was a lad, we had this at school. English cookery may be laughed at throughout the world, but this ranks alongside egg and bacon buttys on fried bread as one of the world's culinary masterpieces. Pupils would queue all lunchtime to have this, even though we knew that Nora, the chief 'cook' used to put her false teeth into anything she cooked for good luck.

The Cornish Pasties made with the lard are the best. It makes the pastry and the rest of the pie taste great. Here is the recipe that I grew up with and is the best pastie you will ever eat.

My husband never liked pumpkin pie until he tasted mine. I don't know what makes mine so different but here is the recipe. Caster sugar may be used in place of honey.

I've been making this pie for years, I use shop brought pastry as it is much easier than making it from scratch.

This is a cheese pie that you can use as a basis for your own variations. You could put a thin layer of pickle on the pie base before filling. Another popular variation in our family is the addition of bacon. It's so simple, even I can manage it!
