Apple purée gives this sauce a rich thick texture that coats meat well. It has a sweet spicy flavour, excellent on chicken or pork. It may also be stored in sterile glass jars.

My mother-in-law gave me this BBQ sauce recipe over twenty four years ago. I use it frequently and someone always asks for it. A mixture of tangy ingredients, onion and brown sugar creates a tasty sauce! This will keep in the fridge for several weeks.

My mother-in-law gave me this recipe. My family puts it on anything from pancakes to vanilla ice cream. It is best served warm, right after making. Fresh blueberries are recommended.

Fresh cranberries are cooked with orange zest, orange juice, lemon juice and brandy. This is a lovely holiday sauce to serve with roasts, and to put on the sandwiches you make with the leftovers!

Sugar syrup is brushed on cakes for added moisture and flavour. This one can be flavoured with brandy or rum. You can also use this syrup to sweeten cocktails or cold summer drinks.

This is a chunky cranberry sauce with apple, sultanas and spices. I suppose it's more like a chutney, but either way it's great with leftover turkey on Boxing Day.

Great when the cupboards are bare or money's tight! And easy too! I use rice as the main thing, you can use anything really, pasta, spaghetti, meat, its entirely up to you, but here's how i made it with rice

This is a vegan, dairy-free sauce. It's great over pasta, and provides a flavourful alternative to traditional cream sauces. You could use any fresh herbs you like.

This always goes down well with my family. I always make it at Christmastime, but also throughout the year when cooking white meats. It's also welcomed by my vegetarian family/friends.

Stirring in fruit adds vitamin C; nuts and seeds add vitamin E.

A quick and easy sauce for glazing ribs or chicken while they cook on the barbecue. Crushed fennel seeds give this easy sauce a distinctive flavour.

This is my easy version of plum sauce that is very tasty and keeps well in the refrigerator. Serve hot or chilled with spring rolls, pork or chicken.

Make your own hot pepper sauce! This is a tremendous table sauce that will spice up cold meats, marinades, vegetable dishes - just about anything! Jalapeños are blended smooth with oil, salt and pepper. Keep refrigerated.

OK, it's not entirely authentic but it's a good version to make with store-cupboard ingredients. Serve with cooked chicken, rice or tortillas, salad greens, sliced avocado and chopped tomatoes round out this fresh tasting meal.

This is a nicely spiced enchilada sauce - pour over corn tortillas stuffed with cheese and your choice of shredded beef or chicken, or refried beans.

Having been in catering for 40 years the biggest problems we all face is a filling tasty meal that is also healthy, this recipe can be used on its own over pasta with maybe a breaded escalope or as the base for Bolognese lasagna even spanish chicken. Due to the lack of any fat at all this does need a long slow cook. I tend to make a massive big pot of this and then freeze it into usuable size portions (rest of the now grown up family always grab a few from the freezer whenever they come round)
