This easy houmous recipe is a delicious twist on the traditional. Serve with crudites as a party nibble, or use to fill veggie sandwiches.

Ruby-red and intensely flavoured, this soup looks stunning swirled with sour cream. Serve as a starter or light lunch with slices of rye bread.

Made with fresh, raw salad vegetables and thickened with bread, this tangy soup is inspired by the Spanish classic, Gazpacho.

A nice salad with a bit of heat from fresh chillies - perfect as a side for Mexican dishes or barbecued meats. Dress with your choice of dressing, or with a simple mix of olive oil and vinegar.

Daft name, I know. I asked my granny (a retired chef) what they actually were and she said they were a kind of truffle (the choccy sweet, not the fungus). I looked up truffles and they are made from cream, sugar and grated chocolate. They are NOTHING like these. I guess Granny was bluffing. So I am going to stick to the daft name above until someone has a better suggestion.

This version of the delicious, creamy Middle Eastern dip uses yoghurt and is delightful with raw vegetables or toasted pitta triangles. It is much lower in fat than classic houmous.

For all the gorgeous chocolate cakes around (and there are many), I still have a soft spot for these crunchy, chewy little buns. I include them partly because when looking for a recipe for them recently I found it suprisingly difficult to find one. Oh come on, don't tell me you don't like them! so get COOKING!!!

Quick and easy - you'll never go to the sandwich shop again. This recipe has a decidedly citrus twist, but feel free to embellish however you'd like - add sultanas, peppers, pineapple, nuts, spring onion, etc.

I make this houmous all the time. It only takes a few minutes to prepare, and it's healthier than shop-bought without the oil. Increase or decrease the ingredients as desired, especially the chillies! Serve with tortilla crisps, pitta triangles or fresh vegetables. Add more of the reserved chickpea liquid for a smoother dip.

A lovely traditional trifle that you can make in no time. Use prepared shop-bought jelly if you want to save some time.

This is a really inexpensive way to make lots of yoghurt, and it's kind of cool to boot! It also offers and endless amount of possibilities of flavours for those watching sugars. After the first batch, you can use a tablespoon of your own homemade yoguurt instead of shop-bought.

This creamy, garlicky Middle Eastern dip is unbelievably simple to make – and you can do it for a fraction of the price of the store-bought versions.

A quick and tasty salad all that is required is a little bit of elbow grease for the preparation. A healthy alternative to coleslaw or a side salad with fish, meat and sauces.

Chopped artichoke hearts with garlic, lemon juice and Parmesan. Great tossed with pasta or as a starter on toasted baguette. Tastes just like what I was paying too much for at a foodie shop. We freeze the leftovers in an ice tray for easy weeknight suppers.

Keep this mixture in salt shakers to serve at the table instead of salt. Excellent for a salt-free diet!

This is a recipe for home made play dough. It's ideal for toddlers aged 2 1/2 or 3 to have fun with. It's not for eating though.
