Greek Orange Roast Lamb

In Greece, roast meat (lamb, beef, chicken) and potatoes is ubiquitous throughout the year. Upon my most recent visit to Athens, my aunt let me in on a secret that takes this traditional dish to another level. Instead of the usual lemon juice, she said, add the juice of one orange. I tried this upon my return home and it is absolutely delicious! It may be awhile before I go back to lemons -- and this dish is as delicious as it is simple.

I love doing potatoes in the oven this way. They don't take too long and go well with lots of dishes - especially fish and chicken. The liquid will dry out during the cooking - that's the idea - but add a little more towards the end if needed. I made them to go with the Mediterranean Lemon Chicken recipe from this site.

This is my gran's old recipe for a delicious roast turkey flavoured with lemon, orange and tangerine juice, and stuffed with meat, roasted chestnuts and pinenuts. An excellent recipe for anyone who loves Greek cuisine.
