I made this up one day. It takes a lot of work, but makes a lot of stew, and the leftovers just taste better and better each time you try it.

This recipe was given to me by my sister, who got it from a Hungarian lady in 1961.

Pretty much a classic recipe, with some added extras. It can be adapted so easily, and you can add almost whatever you have left in the cupboard. You can serve with normal bread, mashed potato, or my favourite, garlic bread.

Duck legs make a richly flavoured, hearty goulash soup – the meat is delicious spooned up with the chunks of carrot, celeriac and mushroom, and a spoonful of soured cream gives a creamy finish. For a complete meal in a bowl, add some potato dumplings flavoured with onion and garlic.

This short-cut version of classic Hungarian goulash is rich and delicious. Strips of lean pork, shredded red cabbage and green pepper cook quickly and taste excellent with the traditional flavourings of paprika and caraway seeds. Serve rice or noodles and a simple green salad alongside, to complete the meal.

This rich meal-in-a-bowl combines beef with vegetables and dumplings and the three essential ingredients of an authentic goulash – paprika, onions and caraway seeds. Serve with boiled or steamed potatoes.

This classic dish is warming and delicious. My mum made this when we were children, and we loved it. Can be made with cheaper cuts of beef, and comes out very tender. If it gets too thick, add a little water while it's cooking. Garnish with crème fraîche or soured cream.

This is a dish that my aunt gave me. It takes awhile to make, but it is worth it. Hope you like it. Serve over spaetzle or rice.

This is a very rich and flavourful slow cooker stew with a thick, red, smoky tasting sauce. Great for making a day ahead and reheating. Instead of pasta, you can serve over rice or potatoes.

I have yet another great creation for your seder table. Turkey is not only economical but this recipe is easy to prepare and above all straight forward to serve. It will keep well on the hot plate so if you spend more time than expected discussing the delights of the Haggadah story, it will not spoil.

A favourite at our house - a yummy rich goulash minus the meat. Serve with rice, pasta or potatoes. You can substitute the Quorn for tofu that's been shallow fried or sliced mushrooms. Hope you enjoy!
