This is my mum’s recipe. She used to make them every Sunday for our afternoon tea when I was a child. These days I make it with a dough hook and it is so easy. It smells and taste absolutely delicious, especially with the apricot jam. I make it when friends come round for tea, garden parties and children's picnics.
Simply delicious, easy to make French bread rolls - perfect for a dinner party or family lunch. Dough can be made in mixer, bread maker or by hand. Brush before baking with a glaze of 1 beaten egg white mixed with 1 tablespoon water if desired. You can also top with poppy seeds or sesame seeds.
These hot cross buns are prepared in a bread machine but baked in the oven for a nicer finish. The egg yolk wash gives these a golden, glossy top. The icing is simply made from sugar and milk.
I first made these in 2000. These are my favourite dinner rolls! I got the recipe out of a cookbook that famous country singers contributed to. This was sent in by Steve Wariner. You'll have no room for dinner after you start eating these! I make my rolls a bit bigger, so of course my yield is considerably less then recipe states. This recipe has also been tried in a bread machine with perfect results.
