About me
I'm originaly from America and have been living in the UK for about 5 years. The one thing I struggled with was the US v UK cooking measurements. I'm working through it - but I'm glad I brought with me all of my cooking tools.
Favourite things to cook
I'm pretty much willing to cook anything, with the exception of cakes, which I'm not all that good at doing. But my favorite meal of the day to cook would be dinner.
Family cooking traditions
My mom was a single mom so she really didn't have time to cook, that was left to my sister & I. We both taught ourselves by reading cook books, watching cooking programs or even experimenting (our poor brother - who later on ended up being a pro cook) Needless to say, we grew to love cooking. The first thing I learned to cook was Sheppard's Pie - I still cook it the same way!
Cooking triumphs
Each Sunday in December a bake dozens of cookies - all types, from sugar cookies to my work famous Chocoate Chip cookies - to bring them into work the following Monday. Its been a tradition with me for over 10 years for every company I've worked at - always with rave reviews :)
Cooking tragedies
I do not like using packet sauces or canned/jarred sauces. I always make mine from scratch for this reason. I was told very short notice that I was having guests over for dinner, so I decided to make my Seafood Alfredo, but I didn't have any parmesan cheese to make my sauce with - so I decided to use a packeted cheese sauce - it tasted & smelled like dirty feet (my husbands words - ha ha), it was absoluty nasty - needless to say we ordered take away.
