An easy way of coordinating a delicious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings.

A beef joint is seasoned simply with salt and pepper, roasted to perfection and served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Perfect for any family gathering!

Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Liberally season a beef roasting joint all over with salt and pepper. Transfer to a small roasting tin. Add a little oil to the bottom of the tin, along with two halves of an onion.
Pop the roast into preheated oven and cook the beef according to its weight. For every 500g, cook for 20 minutes for rare, 25 minutes for medium or 30 minutes for well-done. On top of that, add 20, 25 or 30 minutes. So one 1.5kg beef joint would take a total of 80 minutes for rare, 100 minutes for medium and 120 minutes for well-done.
After 5 to 10 minutes, pour 1 mugful of hot water into the tin. Continue to roast, basting every 25 minutes. Add additional water if necessary.
When the cooking time is up, remove beef from the oven, baste and transfer the joint to a dish. Cover loosely with foil and rest for 15 to 20 minutes. Use the juices in the roasting tin to make gravy.
Snip off any string around the roast, carve and serve with roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings.
