How to make an apple crumble video

This classic pudding has comfort food written all over it. Bramley apples are tossed with orange juice and apricot jam, then topped with a cinnamon-spiced, oat, butter and golden syrup crumble and baked to perfection. Enjoy with ice cream or custard.

Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Butter a 20cm or 23cm square baking dish. Peel 1kg Bramley apples, core and thinly slice. Transfer to a large bowl and set aside.
In a separate bowl, mix together the juice of 2 oranges and 3-4 dessertspoons of apricot jam. Mix well and pour over the apples. Using your hands, toss apples to coat evenly.
Pour apples into prepared baking dish. The dish will be very full. Press down to even out and set aside.
To a large, clean bowl, add 1 mugful porridge oats, 1 mugful plain flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 100g slightly salted butter (cut into smaller pieces). Rub butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add ½ cupful of light brown muscuvado sugar and mix well. Drizzle in golden syrup and stir with a wooden spoon. The mixture should now have largish clumps in it, if not, add a little more golden syrup and stir again.
Pour crumble over the apples and gently even out. Try not to press down too hard. Bake for 35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbling. Remove from oven and rest for 10 minutes. Serve with ice cream or custard.
