About this recipe: I got this recipe from my gran and it is absolutely yummy. It is a savoury crumble and is easy to make.

Serves: 4 

  • 55g (2 oz) margarine
  • 225g (8 oz) breadcrumbs
  • 225g (8 oz) tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 55g (2 oz) grated cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Prep:30min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:1hr 

  1. Melt the margarine and stir in breadcrumbs. Place one third of this mixture in a greased ovenproof dish.
  2. Add tomatoes, onion and cheese in layers. Sprinkle with herbs and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Beat egg and milk, pour over the top and cover with the rest of the breadcrumbs.
  4. Bake at 200 C / gas mark 6 for 20-30 minutes or until crumbs are golden brown.

Used different ingredients. I used a red onion and added some dried basil to the crumb mix. - 31 Jan 2011


This recipe was simple and tasted fantastic, however, I did make a few small changes. I used a red onion and I mixed some dried basil into the crumb mix. I served it with a green salad with a balsmic dressing - yummy. Will definatly be making again! - 31 Jan 2011
