About this recipe:This recipe will take some preparation time, but the end result is so worth it. This dish is heavy on the carne, with five types of meat, it really is a filling dish. Serve with rice and/or garlic bread.
4 rashers smoked bacon
1 or 2 tablespoons olive oil
350g lean minced beef
450g pork sausagemeat
350g diced stewing steak
1 1/2 onions, chopped
3-4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 stick celery, chopped
1-2 fresh chillies, seeded and chopped or to taste
1/2 large green pepper, chopped
1/2 large red pepper, chopped
2 (500g) cartons passata
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
280g cooked chicken, diced
3 (400g) tins chopped tomatoes
1 (410g) tin cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
1 (400g) tin pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1 (410g) tin butter beans, rinsed and drained
salt and pepper to taste

Cook the bacon under the grill; remove when crispy. Chop into pieces and set aside.
In a large pot, heat olive oil. Stir in the minced beef; cook until the minced meat is evenly browned. Remove the mince, set aside in a large bowl, and cook the sausagemeat. Once the pork has browned, remove from the pot, add to the browned mince. Finally, brown the stewing steak in the same pot. Remove and add to the bowl with the mince and sausagemeat.
Reduce heat to medium, then stir the onion, garlic, celery, chilli, green and red peppers into the same large pot; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the passata and cumin, then add the beef and sausage mixture, bacon and cooked chicken. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and beans. Season with salt and pepper. bring to the boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours.
Make it in a slow cooker
Once you have browned all the meat - your slow cooker can take care of the rest.
We made this last saturday, was simply amazing! Easy to make (you cant realy go wrong!)... only made one or two small changes (substituted the sausage meat for whole/chopped sausages) + Cooked it in the slow cooker. Making it again this weekend!!! - 04 Aug 2010
