Red wine and chocolate cake

About this recipe: This is one of the easiest cake recipes I know. It takes minutes to prepare. The red wine adds a lovely richness to an otherwise typical cake. Top with your favourite chocolate sauce, or make your own chocolate icing.

Ingredients

Serves: 12 

  • 300g plain flour
  • 250g butter, softened
  • 250g sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 125ml red wine
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons cocoa
  • 150g chocolate chips
  • 1 bottle chocolate sauce

Method

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Ready in:55min 

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  2. Process all ingredients from flour to cocoa into a smooth mixture. Finally, fold in chocolate chips.
  3. Pour the cake mixture into a greased cake tin and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes. After cooling pour the chocolate sauce over top to serve.
