    About this recipe: This is a basic American Indian fry bread recipe. It's is great with honey and butter. The Navajos put chillies, cheese, onion, lettuce, beans and seasoned mince on it, and call them Navajo Tacos - try it!

    Ingredients
    Serves: 9 

    • 475ml oil for frying
    • 500g plain flour
    • 30g baking powder
    • salt to taste
    • 500ml warm milk

    Method

    1. In a large heavy bottomed frying pan, heat about 2cm of vegetable oil or lard to 185 degrees C.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and milk; mix well. When the dough has pulled together, form it into small balls and pat them flat.
    3. Place 3 or 4 at a time into the hot oil. When the rounds begin to bubble, flip them over and cook until golden. Drain on kitchen paper and serve hot.
