About this recipe: Three simple ingredients come together for a truly outstanding and easy to make beef dish. It's hearty and warming, perfect for winter nights. Serve on penne, rice or mashed potatoes.


Serves: 4 

  • 400g diced beef stewing steak
  • 1/2 sachet French onion soup mix
  • 375ml full strength beer (ale or lager)

  1. Preheat oven to 170 C / Gas 3.
  2. Put beef into casserole dish, sprinkle soup mix over, and mix to coat beef. Pour approximately 1/2 of the beer over beef, until all meat is covered.
  3. Put in oven for 30 minutes, stir, and cook in oven for another 30 minutes.

Cook's tip

If sauce is still thin after cooking, combine 1 teaspoon cornflour and 1 tablespoon warm water, and stir in.
