- 150g butter, softened
- 110g dark brown soft sugar
- 1 egg
- 190g self-raising flour
- 85g chocolate chips
- 75g walnuts (optional)
- desiccated coconut, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds or other topping

- Preheat oven 180 C / Gas 4. Grease or line a baking tray.
- Beat butter and sugar until pale and creamy.
- Beat in egg, then mix in flour to make a soft dough. Add chocolate chips and nuts.
- Take a heaped teaspoon of mixture and roll into a ball.
- Now you can roll them in any of the coatings you wish.
- Place on tray 3cm apart, flatten with fork.
- Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on rack.
