Beef, Rice and Peas

    This is a tasty one-pan meal, which is simple to make. Sauteed onions, beef, cabbage and peas are simmered together with rice. Enjoy as a hearty dinner any day of the week.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1/4 cabbage, chopped
    • 380g rice
    • 75g peas
    • 2 onions, sliced
    • 2 (55g) packets chicken noodle soup, such as Knorr's
    • 500g minced beef
    • 1 tablespoon oil
    • 1 litre water

    1. In a large frying pan, saute onions in oil. Add the beef and fry until brown, then add cabbage and peas.
    2. Stir in the soup mix, then add the rice. Add enough water to cover all the rice (approximately 1 litre).
    3. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add more water if necessary. Serve.

    I cooked this tonight for a couple of family members and not one person liked it. It was too claggy and dry with very little flavour. Had to add some soy sauce and more water and even that didn't help. Will not make again..horrible!  -  23 Nov 2012  (Review from Allrecipes AU | NZ)
