100g streaky bacon, diced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 (400g) tins chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato puree
1 red pepper, diced

Heat the oil in a large saucepan until hot. Saute bacon, onion and garlic for 5 minutes or until golden.
Add chopped tomatoes, tomato puree, red pepper and sugar. Season with salt and pepper.
Simmer sauce gently, uncovered for about 1 hour. Adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve with hot pasta.
