Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Mix the melted butter, golden syrup and dark brown soft sugar in a 23cm round cake tin.
Slice pear halves in half lengthways. Place a pecan in the centre of each pear quarter. Place pears cut side down in the cake tin, arranging them like spokes radiating from the centre of the tin. Sprinkle any remaining pecans around the pears.
Prepare the cake mix according to package directions and pour over the pears and pecans in the cake tin.
Bake 40 minutes in the preheated oven or until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean. Cool slightly before turning out onto a serving dish.
