Bacon, pears and green beans

    55 min

A wonderful German-inspired bacon dish. Par-cooked bacon is simmered with green beans and pears. It's the perfect combination of sweet and salty. Serve with potatoes.

    1. Cook the bacon in a large, deep frying pan over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until partially cooked but not brown, 5 to 6 minutes; drain on kitchen towels.
    2. Combine the drained bacon, green beans and pears in a large saucepan; pour enough water over the mixture to cover. Bring to the boil; reduce the heat to low and simmer until cooked and tender, about 30 minutes.
    3. Remove from the pan to a serving dish with a slotted spoon, draining excess water. Season with salt and pepper to serve.
