About this recipe: A fantastic snack that both kids and adults will love. These pizza sticks are quick and easy to make and are perfect for dinner parties or birthdays. They are similar to Chinese spring rolls, but with a pizza filling.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 24

    • 400g spring roll wrappers
    • 685g cheestrings
    • 2.8kg sliced pepperoni sausage, cut into strips
    • 100g sliced mushrooms
    • 2 tablespoons finely chopped garlic
    • 1 litre oil for frying or as needed
    • 400g bolognese pasta sauce, such as Dolmio

    Method
    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Ready in:15min

    1. Lay out the spring roll wrappers one at a time. Place one cheestring in the centre near the edge, then arrange some pepperoni, sliced mushrooms and garlic around the cheese. Roll up the cheestring a little, fold in the sides, then continue to roll up and seal the edge by moistening with water. Repeat with remaining wrappers, cheese and fillings.
    2. Heat oil in a large heavy frying pan or deep fat fryer to 185 degrees C. Fry enough to fit loosely in the pan, turning once after about 5 minutes. Continue to fry for 3 to 5 more minutes or until golden brown. Drain on kitchen towels.
    3. Warm the bolognese sauce in a serving bowl in the microwave. Serve pizza sticks on a serving plate with the bowl of sauce for dipping.

If your local supermarket doesn't stock spring roll wrappers, you will find them in the frozen aisles of Chinese/Oriental speciality shops.

I'm not gonna give this a rating just yet beacuse I used spring roll wrappers instead of egg roll wrappers. When I went to the store to buy the egg roll wrappers they were out so I figured the spring roll ones would be just as good. WRONG!!! Trust me it was so incredibly greasey we couldn't eat them and had to toss them out. I do plan to try these again but using the egg roll wrappers. I just wanted everyone to learn from my mistake.  -  29 Jan 2011  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
