Chinese beef and pineapple stir fry

    A deliciously fruity Chinese beef dish. Beef steak is stir-fried with garlic, onions, red pepper and chopped pineapple, in a HP sauce. Serve with freshly cooked white rice.

    Serves: 4 

    • Marinade
    • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 tablespoon light soy sauce or 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
    • 1-2 tablespoons cornflour, mixed with 1 tablespoon water
    • 450g beef steak, diced
    • 1 tablespoon oil
    • 1/2 tablespoon chopped garlic
    • 1 tablespoon oil
    • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
    • 1 medium onion, chopped
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 red pepper, chopped
    • Sauce
    • 4 tablespoons HP original sauce
    • 2 tablespoons tinned pineapple syrup
    • sugar to taste
    • 1 (425g) tin pineapple slices, drained and chopped

    1. Make the marinade by mixing together the sugar, salt, soy sauce and cornflour slurry. Mix in the beef, allow to marinate for 15 minutes.
    2. Heat a large frying pan with 1 tablespoon oil. Stir-fry the beef with garlic until 70% done, about 3-4 minutes. Set aside.
    3. Heat the same frying pan with 1 tablespoon oil. Stir-fry the garlic until aromatic, 2-3 minutes. Add the onion and salt and stir-fry until soft, 3-4 minutes. Add the red pepper; stir for 1-2 minutes.
    4. Add the beef back into the pan, together with the HP sauce and pineapple syrup. Mix to stir, adjust the seasoning with sugar, turn off the heat and add chopped pineapple, stir and serve.
