Sourdough Brown Bread

    A simple sourdough bread recipe made with part rye flour, part regular flour. If you don't have your own sourdough starter, there are several recipes for sourdough starter on this website. Enjoy!

    Serves: 1 

    • 450g rye flour
    • 450g strong flour
    • 125g sourdough starter
    • 20g yeast
    • 600ml lukewarm water
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

    1. Mix all ingredients except the water and salt. Add the water and knead well. Cover the dough and leave to rise for 20 minutes.
    2. Add salt, knead again and leave to rise for 30 minutes.
    3. Place into a floured loaf tin and leave to rise for 30-40 minutes. Preheat the oven to 250 C / Gas 9.
    4. Bake bread for 10 minutes in the oven, then reduce the temperature to 200 C / Gas 6 and bake for 50 minutes.
