Preheat oven to 200 degrees C/ gas mark 4 and grease a round cake tin (22cm).

For the cake: Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Stir in the melted butter and milk and mix well.

Pour into the greased cake tin and bake for 25 minutes.

Remove and leave to cool on a wire rack.

For the chocolate filling/icing: Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Stir in the butter and coffee and whisk quickly, until smooth.
Tip
This recipe makes a lot of icing so what I do, is I carefully cut the cake in half (horizontally) and put the icing on the bottom half like I'm spreading some butter on a sandwich. I then put the top half back on and use the rest of the icing on top to decorate.
Beautiful cake, It came out quite flat and fell apart a bit even though i had used self raising flour plus the baking powder, however it tastes delicious, and was the perfect solution to my no eggs crisis ! will definately make again, Thanks !
