Orange and Chocolate Mousse

    30 min

A tasty, rich, creamy mousse. Plain chocolate is combined with fresh orange and eggs - just four ingredients combine for a fantastically easy yet elegant dessert. Top with cream to serve, if desired.

    Serves: 4

    • 225g (8 oz) chocolate, broken up
    • juice and zest of an orange
    • 4 egg whites
    • 4 egg yolks

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Extra time:5min chilling  ›  Ready in:30min

    1. Melt the chocolate with the orange juice and zest in a pan. Alternatively place the chocolate and orange in a bowl over a simmering pan of water, making sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Stir until melted.
    2. Once melted, take chocolate off the heat and beat the egg yolks into the mix.
    3. Whisk up the egg whites until you have a nice fluffy texture. You should be able to make little peaks of froth that don't collapse back into the rest of the mix. Then slowly fold the chocolate mix to this (don't beat or whisk).
    4. Pour into dishes and let it chill in the fridge.

Just tried this recipe. Absolutely beautiful!!! I would say however that the portions were very big so I would serve this to 6-8 as a suppose to 4. So easy also ! I may try this with white chocolate next but trying to decide what flavour instead of orange....?  -  18 Mar 2012
