Stir-Fried Chinese Broccoli and Sausage

    This delicious dish will be always welcomed on the dinner table. Chinese broccoli is stir-fried with Chinese pork sausages. Enjoy with freshly cooked rice.

    Serves: 4 

    • 150g fresh Chinese broccoli (gai lan)
    • 100g Chinese pork sausage (lap cheung)
    • 1 (2.5cm) piece fresh ginger, sliced
    • 150ml groundnut oil
    • 2 teaspoons salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (MSG)
    • 1/8 teaspoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cornflour, mixed with 2 teaspoons water
    • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

    1. Snap off the tough part of the broccoli and discard. Separate the leaves from the stems. Discard the wilted leaves. Cut the stems into 5cm lengths pieces.
    2. Steam the sausages and slice.
    3. Heat the oil in a wok, add ginger, salt and sausages. Stir-fry until the sausages are aromatic.
    4. Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 2 minutes and transfer to the ice water to cool. Drain.
    5. Add MSG, sugar, Chinese broccoli and stir-fry. Add the cornflour slurry and stir-fry for 1 minute.
    6. Transfer the Chinese broccoli and sausages to a serving plate. Drizzle with sesame oil and serve.


    Chinese broccoli, Chinese pork sausages and monosodium glutamate can be purchased in Chinese/Oriental speciality shops.
