Homemade waffles

    A foolproof waffle recipe that is soft and crispy at the same time. The possibilities are absolutely endless - serve with jam and butter for a simple treat at breakfast, or with whipped cream or ice cream and fruit for a lovely dessert.

    Serves: 4 

    • 300g plain flour
    • 75g caster sugar
    • 10g baking powder
    • a pinch of salt
    • 2 eggs
    • 100g butter
    • 500ml milk

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

    1. Mix the flour with the sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
    2. Stir in the eggs.
    3. Melt the butter and add it to the mixture and stir.
    4. Finally add the milk, and mix.
    5. Set aside for 1 hour at room temperature.
    6. Pour the batter into a waffle maker then cook the batter for 4 to 5 minutes.

    This is the most un-foolproof waffle recipe EVER!! Terrible! Delicious yes - but limp, soft, soggy, flaccid waffles... Yes I made it according to the recipe & cooked them as long as possible before burnt to try & crisp them up - all to no avail  -  13 Feb 2017  (Review from Allrecipes AU | NZ)


    I tried this as a quicker recipe than my usual waffle recipe which involves beating egg whites separately and then folding into the batter. Although the waffles in this recipe aren't as thick, they do seem to stay crispier for longer. Husband thought it was a better recipe. Only change I would make would be to mix the eggs with the milk and cooled melted butter and then to add to the dry ingredients.
