Fabulous far breton


    This is a traditional French dessert, which is similar to clafoutis, but a little denser in texture. Prunes are baked in a sweetened egg custard. Simple, elegant and delicious.

    Serves: 8 

    • 1 knob butter
    • 1 litre milk, warm
    • 12 large prunes, stones removed
    • 300g caster sugar
    • 350g plain flour
    • 6 whole eggs

    1. Preheat the oven to 240 C / Gas 9. Butter a baking dish.
    2. Gradually add the hot milk, stirring constantly until smooth. Pour into the prepared dish.
    3. Combine the flour and sugar together in a large bowl. Add the eggs and stir to incorporate.
    4. Drop the prunes into the batter and place into the preheated oven. When the top has lightly browned, reduce the heat to 180 C / Gas 4. Total bake time is about 50 minutes.
