Annie's burgers

    I don't like bought burgers as it is hard to know what is in them. These burgers are moist and leave a nice aftertaste in your mouth. I find they are best when dressed in a burger bun with lettuce, tomato and thinly sliced onion, and served with chunky cut chips that have been roasted in the oven with a little vegetable oil.

    Makes: 12 burgers

    • 1kg minced beef
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 4 tablespoons fine breadcrumbs
    • 1 egg, lightly beaten
    • 1 red chilli, finely chopped
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon mustard powder or mustard
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 2 garlic cloves, crushed

    1. Add all prepared ingredients to large mixing bowl, mix well with your hands. Wet your hands in cold water and shape into burgers. Flatten them into about 1 inch thick.
    2. Cook on medium heat for 5 minutes each side.

    This recipe should be named Annie’s Meatloaf Burgers because its ingredients are pretty much the same as you put in meat loaf, and to us, it tasted like a meatloaf sandwich. HOWEVER, that being said, we did enjoy them. But if you’re looking for a traditional burger, you just might be disappointed. Also, this would be perfect for sliders, but if you’re looking for full-size burgers, you won’t get 12 servings from 2 lb. of minced beef, that’s only 3 oz per burger. I made 4-oz burgers, and I wish I’d made 5-ouncers.  -  07 Dec 2015
