This is my favourite bread recipe for the bread machine. This bread is made with part plain flour, part wholemeal flour, and is flavoured with just a bit of treacle for a lovely colour and ever so slight sweetness.
The proportion of milk and water to flour is completely wrong. The bread didn't rise. I ended up with something which resembled treacle cake more than treacle bread. Also, there is far too much treacle being used in this recipe. There is supposed to be a hint of treacle in treacle bread but the flavour here is far too strong. I would suggest using more bread flour and less treacle to improve the recipe. I will try this recipe again and once I get it right I will post a new recipe. - 12 Apr 2014
Wonderful! Love using molasses -- good iron content! I bumped up the nutrition with 1/2 cup wheat germ, 1/2 cup ground flax seed, 2 cups whole wheat flour and used Whole Wheat setting -> more dense of course, but very tasty. THANKS! - 07 Oct 2008 (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
