This is a basic buttercream frosting recipe, which you can enjoy as is or colour with food colouring to decorate birthday cakes, cupcakes, etc. If your icing sugar is lumpy, sift it into the butter for easier beating.

this is the first time That i have made frosting, I was a little unsure and checked out loads of recipes dubiously settling for this one as it had no reviews but I had most of the things in the house. It was a success to say the least. I frosted my daughters cake. It went on beautifully, coloured with food dye beautifully and 'set' nicely not hard. I also used it to fill the sandwich part with an additional layer of jam. Perfect. I cannot recommend this recipe highly enough. Simple, works and brill for the first time froster ie ME!! - 01 May 2013
