About this recipe: For a weekend breakfast treat, or simply toasted and buttered to serve with a cuppa, this chocolate chip loaf cannot be beat. It's a slightly sweet yeast bread that is made in the bread machine.


Serves: 15 

  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 250ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • 410g strong bread flour
  • 3 tablespoons dark brown soft sugar
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried active baking yeast
  • 30g margarine, softened
  • 125g plain chocolate chips

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:2hr50min  ›  Ready in:3hr 

  1. Place all ingredients except for the chocolate chips in the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select 'Mix Bread' cycle or the setting that allows ingredients such as seeds or fruit to be folded into the dough; press Start.
  2. Add the chocolate chips at the signal, or about 5 minutes before the kneading cycle has finished. Remove loaf from machine to cool when bake cycle finishes.

Smelt amazing and I was really looking forward to it, but once out of the pan it started collapsing. Too much liquid in the mix! - 28 Mar 2012


Really nice, stuck with original recipe and it worked perfectly, our choc was quite melted making it look more like chocolate bread than choc chip, have now read a tip about using frozen choc chips, will try that next time. - 25 Feb 2015
