    About this recipe: This chocolate chip cookie recipe makes a small batch - perfect when you want just a few. You can treble the recipe and use a mix of butter and margarine, if desired.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6 

    • 100g margarine
    • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 110g dark brown soft sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 140g plain flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 60g chopped walnuts
    • 170g plain chocolate chips

    Method

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. In a bowl, cream together margarine, dark brown soft sugar and granulated sugar. Mix in the egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt; stir into the cookie dough until moistened. Mix in the walnuts and chocolate chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking trays.
    3. Bake for 8 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges are light brown.

    Excellent cookies! The original contributor is right; substitute some margarine for part of the shortening. Our family also thought it needed a lot more vanilla; I'd triple what it calls for.     This is without a doubt the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. I've been freezing the dough in cookie-size balls, flash freezing them, putting them in freezer bags and giving them as extra treats to my friends when they have new babies.
