Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
In a bowl, cream together margarine, dark brown soft sugar and granulated sugar. Mix in the egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt; stir into the cookie dough until moistened. Mix in the walnuts and chocolate chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking trays.
Bake for 8 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges are light brown.
