This well-known American dish is comfort food in a bun. Minced beef is heated in a sweet and tangy tomato sauce and served in a toasted burger bun.
Made it healthier. I boiled my mince and skimmed off the fat, then drained and rinsed. I sprayed a frying pan with some 1kcal spray frying oil and quickly fried 2 small onions - diced. I added the mince on top of this along with 1 tin campbells condensed, low fat tomato soup. I upped the Worcestershire sauce and skipped the sugar. They were delicious and sweet :-) - 13 Mar 2011
I'm on a low fat diet and craving burgers. Someone told me to try sloppy joes because extra lean mince which is then grilled to further reduce the fat content, can be very dry, and that the tomato sauce compensates this. This was truely delicious and i will definately be making these in the future (In reality, I'll probably end up making them three times a week until i get bored haha - I do this with all foods that become my recent favourites) I will never go out for burgers again!
