Easy spaghetti Bolognese

    A basic slow-cooked bolognese sauce served with spaghetti. Comfort food at its finest! Make a double batch of the sauce, then freeze in small portions for a home cooked meal later.

    Serves: 5 

    • 450g lean minced beef
    • 340g spaghetti
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 3/4 teaspoon caster sugar
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 1/8 teaspoon garlic granules
    • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
    • 600g chopped tomatoes
    • 200g tomato puree
    • 1/2 (220g) tin mushrooms, drained and sliced

    1. Brown mince over medium heat. Drain off fat.
    2. In a large saucepan, combine mince, salt, sugar, oregano, pepper, garlic granules, onion flakes, diced tomatoes, tomato puree and mushrooms. Simmer at a low heat setting for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
    3. Cook pasta according to packet directions. Drain. Serve sauce over spaghetti.

    Just made them and it's super delicious! Added a bit of chopped carrot and used fresh garlic instead of the granules and it worked perfect. Easy with no fuss of wine or beef broth! Thank you for this recipe!  -  09 Feb 2016


    I added 1 red chilli, was gonna add 2 but glad I didn't it was hot enough for my family, for 4 people I used 350g mince, 1 can chopped tomatoes and half a carton of pasatta I had in the fridge and only about 100g tomato puree and a fresh carton of mushrooms - excellent thanks for the recipe  -  07 Jun 2016
