Basic Wholemeal Bread

    This is a basic wholemeal bread recipe that is very easy to make in the bread machine. Perfect for sandwiches or toasted with butter and jam.

    Serves: 12 

    • 180ml warm water (45 degrees C)
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 135g stong bread flour
    • 120g wholemeal flour
    • 1 teaspoon quick yeast

    1. Place all ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select Wholemeal cycle and Regular bake time; press Start.
    2. After 5 minutes, check how the dough is kneading, it may need either 1 tablespoon of flour or 1 tablespoon of water, depending on the consistency. Once the bread is done, allow it time to cool on a wire rack before cutting.

    This was fantastic!!! Ok, I didn't use the egg powder (it grosses me out) and I used 1 pkg. of rapid yeast. They are so light and with a perfect texture. I shaped them into 6 large rolls and they're the perfect size for sandwiches.Also, I cover them with a dish towle after they come out of the oven to keep the crust soft. I'm makeing another batch for tonights BBQ and shaping them into hot dog and hamburger rolls. I just added more oil, water and flour to the recipe but not more yeast.
